What in the Hell is Consciousness? – Tuesdays, Feb 13 – Mar 6, 5:45pm-7:15pm
Is consciousness simply a biological function of the brain? Is it as straightforward as the state of being awake, or not asleep? Is it being aware of our self-hood? If so, who, or what, is aware? And what is the origin of this awareness? One thing is certain — in this course, we will not discover the answer, but instead explore the question: What in the hell is consciousness? Our discussion will include a survey of historic and modern scholarly commentaries on consciousness. You will not walk away with an answer, but you will develop a deeper understanding of the differences between the known, the unknown, and the unknowable.
