John Price is a depth-psychotherapist, educator, consummate student and former professional musician who co-founded The Center for Healing Arts and Sciences. His unique journey began with a life immersed in music, touring nationally as a professional musician, and experiencing the exhilarating highs and chaotic lows of the life of an artist. This path took a significant turn following the birth of his son, a life-altering event that steered him towards the academic study of psychology. This newfound path married his profound interests in understanding human nature, philosophy, art, and spirituality.
John's academic pursuits culminated in a Doctorate in Jungian Psychology, where he merged his personal experiences as a musician with his expertise in depth psychology. His dissertation explored fame as a symbol for understanding the process of individuation, a psychological principle that Carl Jung posited as the ultimate goal of human life.
Presently, John contributes his expertise to the Esalen faculty in Big Sur, a renowned institution known for its humanistic studies. His courses such as "The Psychology of Shadow and Fame" and "Ecstatic Experience, Music, & Jung’s Red Book" highlight his commitment to imparting knowledge. Additionally, he serves as the Vice President of the Board at the Jung Center Houston, a non-profit institution dedicated to studying psychology, spirituality, arts, and humanities. Along with his work at Esalen John also serves as the current vice-president of the board at The Jung Center of Houston, and he maintains a position on the faculty facilitating classes on subjects ranging from The Psychology of Projection, Explorations of Consciousness, The Mystic William Blake, to The Origin of Satan.
John's work places a significant emphasis on exploring the unconscious mind. He champions methods such as depth psychology, ecstatic experience, religions of antiquity, and art as tools to tap into the uncharted territories of the human psyche. His teachings strive to bridge ancient wisdom with modern contexts, reflecting a deep respect for esoteric traditions like Hermeticism. This ancient philosophy, attributed to Hermes Trismegistus, posits an integrative approach to healing that John incorporates into his psychotherapeutic practice.
John further explores these ideas through his popular podcast, "The Sacred Speaks," where he discusses religions of antiquity, depth psychology, and the emergent field of psychedelics. He invites thought-leaders and practitioners for enlightening conversations, uncovering the transformative power of personal narratives. This belief in the power of personal stories pervades both his podcast and clinical work, reinforcing his conviction that unraveling one's narrative can foster profound personal growth.
In partnership with his wife, Leila-Scott Price, John co-founded The Center for the Healing Arts and Sciences. This integrative wellness clinic offers a variety of therapies and educational resources, embodying John's belief in the importance of community and interpersonal connection for personal growth and healing. Despite his diverse roles, John treasures his family, taking great pride in his most important roles as a father and husband.
John's current project incorporates the work at The Center, The Sacred Speaks, authoring his forthcoming book, and a few other projects that are currently in the works. Through his projects, he aspires to deepen individuals' understanding of their place within the collective consciousness. He guides people to recognize and reinterpret their own pillars, encouraging a more conscious, authentic, and integrated existence. John's unique blend of scholarly rigor, practical application, and personal experience positions him as a leading figure in his field. Central to his work is the belief in personal empowerment, self-realization, and the capacity for profound change and growth within each individual. By marrying ancient practices with modern psychotherapy, John continues to shed light on the path to self-discovery and healing.
