This workshop is great for beginners and advanced practitioners of all. Hosted by The Center for HAS. Led by Edward Wong.

In this intro workshop to Tai Chi, we will:

  • learn the foundations of this ancient art.
  • learn how to breathe and circulate Qi (prana) (life force energy) with Tai Chi movements – how to understand when to exhale or inhale and where to focus the energy.
  • learn to relax through Tai Chi.
  • learn the simple self defense application of each movement of the practice
  • come to understand the 5 basic footworks which help coordinate the 8 Basic Fundamental concepts of Tai Chi. Combined together this is called the “13 Fundamentals of Tai Chi.”

We will cover 3 Forms:

The First Form is to strengthen leg muscles and charge the body with Qi in the Dan Tian. This form will help with flexibility, balance & coordination. Because it moves the Qi strongly throughout the body it can help you stay fit and lose weight. Each of these sets are done separately teaching you the fundamentals of Tai Chi.

The Second and Third Forms are called Ba Fa (Eight Basic Concepts of Tai Chi) and are a “must know” for all Tai Chi practitioners.

The Eight Basic Concepts of Tai Chi are the core of Tai Chi. Every movement in Tai Chi is based on these 8 concepts. We will cover what Peng, Lu, Ji, An, Cai, Lieh, Zhou, and Kou mean in martial arts.
