Our Therapies
What is Breathwork?
Breathwork is an intentional, guided breathing practice that uses the rhythm and depth of your breath to unlock healing on a physiological, emotional, and spiritual level. Unlike passive relaxation techniques, Breathwork is active and deeply engaging — you breathe with purpose, presence, and intention.
At The Center for Healing Arts & Sciences, we practice SOMA Breath. SOMA Breath is a holistic practice that combines rhythmic breathing synced to music with guided breath retention. The rhythmic breathing flow helps dissolve mental static, while the breath holds create a space of profound inner stillness. This process helps regulate the nervous system, allowing for deep emotional processing and physical restoration.
Breathwork has roots in ancient yogic pranayama traditions and has been embraced by modern wellness practitioners and researchers alike for its ability to activate the body’s parasympathetic nervous system — your natural rest-and-restore state — while simultaneously creating space for emotional processing and release.
Who Is Breathwork For?
You may be exactly the right person for Breathwork if you find yourself:
- Carrying tension, anxiety, or stress that won’t seem to budge no matter what you try
- Feeling emotionally numb, disconnected, or stuck in patterns you can’t explain
- Processing grief, loss, relationship transitions, or major life changes
- Recovering from trauma, whether recent or long-held
- Seeking a deeper connection to your intuition and inner wisdom
- Longing to feel grounded, clear-headed, and fully present in your life
- Looking for a holistic complement to your existing therapy, acupuncture, or yoga practice
Breathwork is for anyone ready to stop running from what’s inside and start breathing through it. It is available as both individual and group sessions at our Houston wellness center.
What Happens During a Breathwork Session at The Center?
Your Breathwork session at The Center for Healing Arts & Sciences in Houston begins with a grounded, supportive conversation. Your facilitator will take time to understand where you are — emotionally, physically, and energetically — so that your session can be tailored to meet you exactly where you need to be met.
You’ll then be guided into the SOMA Breath pattern while lying comfortably. Music, sound, and gentle cues support you throughout. As the breath deepens, many people begin to notice sensations of warmth, tingling, emotional release, or a profound sense of inner spaciousness. Some laugh. Some cry. Many simply feel held for the first time in a long time.
Your facilitator remains present with you throughout, creating a safe, trauma-informed container in which whatever arises is welcome.
Sessions close with a period of stillness, integration, and grounded conversation — helping you carry the insights and openings from your breath into the rest of your life.
The Benefits of Breathwork in Houston
Houston is a city that moves fast. The pace, the heat, the noise of daily life — it accumulates in the body in ways we often don’t notice until we simply can’t ignore them anymore. Breathwork offers Houstonians a rare invitation to pause, drop in, and genuinely reset.
Physical benefits of Breathwork include:
- Reduced cortisol levels and lower physiological stress responses
- Improved lung capacity and oxygenation
- Relief from chronic tension held in the neck, shoulders, chest, and jaw
- Activation of the parasympathetic nervous system (rest-and-digest mode)
- Deeper, more restorative sleep
Emotional and mental benefits include:
- Release of suppressed or stuck emotions without the need to analyze or explain them
- Reduced symptoms of anxiety, depression, and emotional overwhelm
- Greater clarity of mind and improved ability to focus
- Increased sense of inner calm and emotional resilience
- Relief from the weight of grief, guilt, shame, or unprocessed anger
Spiritual and energetic benefits include:
- A deepened connection to your authentic self and intuition
- Heightened sense of presence and aliveness
- Access to inner wisdom that can feel difficult to reach through the thinking mind
- A renewed sense of purpose, groundedness, and trust in the unfolding of your life
How You’ll Feel After a Breathwork Session
Words from our Houston clients tell the story best. After a Breathwork session at The Center for Healing Arts & Sciences, people describe feeling:
Lighter. Like a weight they’d been carrying for years — sometimes decades — has quietly left the building.
More themselves. Not a version of themselves trying to keep it together, but their actual, full, unguarded self — the one that sometimes gets buried under obligation, performance, and busyness.
Grounded and clear. Many clients describe leaving with a sense of calm certainty, as if the noise inside has finally quieted enough to hear what truly matters.
Emotionally opened. Whether through tears, laughter, or a profound sense of peace, something that was held tight gets to soften. And in that softening, there is enormous relief.
Reconnected. To their body. To their intuition. To the people and experiences in their life that actually nourish them.
One session can shift something significant. A series of sessions can fundamentally change how you inhabit your own life.
Breathwork as Part of Your Integrative Wellness Journey in Houston
At The Center for Healing Arts & Sciences, Breathwork doesn’t exist in isolation — it lives within a broader ecosystem of integrative healing. Many of our Houston clients combine Breathwork with psychotherapy or Jungian analysis, acupuncture, yoga therapy, sound healing, Reiki, or mindfulness and meditation guidance for a deeply layered and personalized wellness experience.
Our practitioners communicate across disciplines, which means your Breathwork facilitator may coordinate with your therapist or acupuncturist to ensure that what comes up in a session is supported, integrated, and honored across your entire care plan.
This is what it means to heal the whole person. This is what we do at The Center.
