Creative Mindfulness – Art Therapy
at the Center for Healing and Arts Sciences
There is a way of creating that isn’t about being “good” at art. It’s about listening.
This work lives at the intersection of mindfulness, creative expression, and emotional healing. Through guided journaling, process-based art, and simple meditation practices, we create space to slow down, notice what’s present, and respond with curiosity instead of judgment.
Art becomes less about the outcome—and more about connection.
Connection to your inner world, your body, your voice, and the quieter parts of yourself that don’t often get the microphone.
Our Therapies
Why Art?
Creative expression offers a direct path into awareness. When words fall short, color, shape, texture, and movement can reveal what’s underneath the surface.
In this space, art is used as a tool for:
- Deepening mindfulness and present-moment awareness
- Processing emotions in a non-verbal, embodied way
- Reducing stress and nervous system overwhelm
- Reconnecting with intuition and inner guidance
- Accessing a sense of play, freedom, and possibility
You don’t need to analyze what you create. You only need to be willing to show up and
explore.

Journaling as a Bridge
Writing and art work together here. Journaling helps give language to what emerges through image-making, while art allows us to move beyond the limits of language. Prompts are offered to gently guide reflection—but there is no pressure to “do it right.” The intention is to support honest expression, not polished writing.
What is Process Art?
Process art focuses on the experience of creating rather than the final product.
There are no mistakes.
No need to impress.
No expectation of beauty or skill.
Instead, the emphasis is on:
- Experimentation
- Sensation
- Curiosity
- Letting go of control
This approach can be surprisingly freeing—especially for those who feel disconnected from their creativity or intimidated by traditional art-making.
Who This Is For
This work is for you if:
- You feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself
- You’re craving a creative outlet but don’t know where to start
- You’re interested in mindfulness, meditation, or self-inquiry
- You tend to overthink and want to access something more intuitive
- You’re navigating a life transition, loss, or period of growth
- You miss the feeling of play, imagination, or making things just because
You do not need to be an artist. In fact, many people who feel the most hesitant about
art find the greatest sense of relief and discovery here.
What to Expect
Each session offers a supportive, non-judgmental environment where you can explore at your own pace.
You can expect:
- Gentle grounding or meditation practices
- Thoughtfully designed journaling prompts
- Guided and open-ended art exploration
- Opportunities for reflection (sharing is always optional)
- A calm, welcoming space that honors your process
There is no critique, no pressure, and no expectation to produce anything “good.” This
is a space for exploration, not evaluation.
A Return to Curiosity
At its core, this work is about remembering something many of us have forgotten:
How to be with ourselves without immediately trying to fix, judge, or improve.
It’s about reconnecting with the part of you that once created freely—before there were rules, expectations, or self-doubt.
That part is still there.
And it’s often where the most meaningful healing begins.
Tracey Waldroup
Tracey Waldroup is an artist, educator, and creative mindfulness facilitator offering individual sessions, group circles, and workshops that blend mindfulness, meditation, journaling, and process-based art.
Her work is rooted in the belief that creativity is a natural human capacity—not a skill reserved for artists. Through gentle guidance and thoughtfully designed prompts, she supports individuals in reconnecting with their inner voice, processing emotions, and learning to trust their own intuition.
She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Education, and has completed yoga teacher training, all of which inform her integrative, reflective approach. Drawing from both her background in education and her ongoing personal practice, she creates spaces that are supportive, non-judgmental, and grounded in curiosity.
Sessions are available for individuals as well as groups, both in-person and online.
